Coming out of the Merstham station, turn right past the station car park, and follow the minor road till you reach the main road. Turn right on the main road which offers parking spaces on both sides. Then go across the bridge over the m25. Cross sides of the road when an appropriate gap is available. Avoid the first road on your left called Gatton bottom instead go left through the lunch gate into the church of St Katherine's.
Next take either two paths available by the north east corner leading back up church hill and turn left. At the rise before the private section, avoid an unmarked path on your left, instead take the signed path on the left. Follow the fence and keep along the right hand edge. Beware this path can sometimes become overgrown if so keep to the side of the path on the edge of the field next to it. As the meadow curves to your left, carry on straight next to the barbed wire fence. If it's overgrown and you're on the field carry on and find a re-join path by the oak tree.
Your path then enters a crop field. Follow the path on the right hand side of the field until you reach the first corner. Now turn left until you reach a stile around 150m, cross the stile and turn left. Follow the hedge beside you until it turns right then follow the tractor trails past a fenced house. Continue following the tracks till you reach a metal gate by Hoath cottage.
Turn left uphill. The lane bends before flattening. Next to the entrance to the wood field go over a stile on your right. Follow the right hand side of the small meadow, along the trees till you reach a stile. Cross the centre of the field and go through a gap in the barbed wire fence. Continue through the trees till you reach a wide farm track. Continue on the rough track. It curves to a metal gate. Enter the open view field. Turn immediately left down the left hand side of the field.
At the bottom of the field turn right on a level path between wooden fences. On the corner by the finger post turn left between fields. Now turn right onto a stony track. As you near a farmstead keep straight ahead through a wooden swing gate. This straight path bends right and leads out to the road. Turn left on the road using the foot way. The woods on your right doesn’t have any paths so you have to stick to the road for 200m.
On the junction opposite Markledge lane, turn right on Reeves rest. The main driveway goes left towards the house and keeps straight on instead. Past some garages go right through a small wooden gate into a field. Turn left in the field and head for a small wood. Staying on the left but cutting the left hand corner of the field. Follow till you reach a stile, go over the stile into a woodland, follow the path to your left through a wooden spring gate till you reach a meadow. Follow a path straight across the centre. Once you reach the other side go through another spring gate till you reach tarmac lane.
Turn right then immediately left before the bungalow and then up steps on a narrow path. This path takes you over a stile along a large meadow with amazing views. As you come over the crest drop down gradually to your right to over a stile in the hedge, leading you down to a tarmac lane. Turn left then Immediately right through a wooden gate on a shingle track. Go right over a still into a sloping meadow and cross diagonally right to head for the far left corner of the field, to the right hand side of a small beechwood. Here go left over a stile and right through a metal gate on to the road turn left on the road and you will find our family run country pub The Well House Inn in Chipstead Surrey.
